At least 2,000 underprivileged persons living in Assiga community, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State yesterday benefited from the Ojubi Sunday’s free medical outreach, organized by a 42-year-old industrial nurse to assist underprivileged people suffering from various ailments but with no financial resources to seek for medical attention.
Beneficiaries of the outreach included 300 women screened for cervical cancer, 600 persons who voluntarily presented themselves for counselling and subsequent test for Human Immune Deficiency Virus, HIV, with reactive cases referred for further education and anti-retroviral treatment.
In a public lecture, which took place at the outreach, the philanthropist told beneficiaries to prioritize health check so that they can live longer.
Speaking on the topic ‘Good Hygiene Practice,’ two public health experts, Precious Effiong and Ojubi Sunday Eyong, while distributing 100 cartons of oral rehydration solution, ORS, and zinc sulphate tablets and a thousand mosquitoes nets to fight against mosquitoes attacks, stated that with good health the sky remains our limits.
In an interaction with our correspondent at the end of the outreach yesterday, the 42-year-old industrial nurse with Oando Energy Resources stated that the outreach, organized in collaboration with Rumokwuta Agape Thrift Cooperative Society Investment and Credit Society of Port Harcourt is an initiative which he initiated to assist underprivileged people who had been in dire need of medical care, especially as the community residents had just witnessed outbreak of diarrhoea, but had no financial resources to get medical attention.
Giving insight about the annual event which began in 2022, Ojubi said, “We did medical consultations, medication on anti-malaria, anti-biotics dispensation, anti-hypertensives, anti-diabetes, diagnosis and treatment of all minor ailments, referral and medical consultation
“It’s the reason the 2025 edition of the outreach had its focus on diarrhoea prevention and treatment, just to address the current outbreak of diarrhoea in Assiga community.
“So far we, have distributed over 100 cartons of oral rehydration solution, ORS, and zinc sulphate tablets at no cost to the people.
“We have also carried out community education where we focused so much on hygiene practices and disease prevention; we distributed 1,000 mosquito nets to protect against malaria.
“There is currently outbreak of diarrhoea in Assiga community, so the 2025 edition of the outreach carried out a specialized focus on diarrhoea prevention and treatment to address current outbreak of diarrhoea in that community.
“Honestly, I am yet to register an NGO, I am doing this based on empathy and passion. I want to register an NGO, I was told it would cost me more than 100,000, I ended up using the money to buy 200 doses of anti-malarial medication for children in the community.
“I will be pleased to have men and women of integrity partner with me so that we can help those in dire need of good health.”
