President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN, Engr. Dr. Adebisi Osim, FNSE, has stated that empowering a girl with skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, STEM, amounts to building a brighter future for unborn generations.

Adebisi made the remarks while delivering a speech during the inauguration of the 4th Chairman of the Ibadan Chapter of APWEN/celebration of International Day of the Girl-Child in Ibadan yesterday.

Adebisi averred that when a girl-child is empowered with knowledge and skills in STEM, she is not only being educated as an individual, but communities are being transformed.

She said, “For too long, barriers have kept girls from pursuing their passions in these critical areas, but today, we are committed to creating a path for every girl to envision and realise her future in STEM.

“We are creating solutions, building a brighter future for generations to come. Our goal is to encourage girls to see themselves as engineers, scientists, innovators and leaders of tomorrow.

“To our young girls, your vision for the future matters. The world needs your creativity, your brilliance, and your determination to tackle challenges of our time.

“Whether it is in finding sustainable solutions to climate change, designing innovative technologies, or developing new ways to improve lives, your contributions in STEM are vital.

“I appreciate all mentors, educators, and supporters who dedicated their time in grooming and guiding these young minds.

“Your encouragement and belief in the potentials of our girls are what fuel their dreams and aspirations.

“Let us continue to provide them with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive in STEM.

“As we celebrate ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future,’ let us commit to not just talking about change, but being the change.

“Let create more scholarship
opportunities, mentorship programs, and safe spaces for girls to explore, experiment, and excel in STEM.

“Let’s ensure that they have access to education and the encouragement they need to break the glass ceilings that stand in their way.

“To the girls, know that your vision for the future is powerful. You have the ability to reshape the world with your ideas, to lead the charge in scientific discoveries, to innovate, and to engineer solutions that will benefit humanity.

“Never let anyone tell you that your dreams are too big or your ambitions too high. At APWEN, we stand with you, we believe in you, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

“Engr. Raheemat Abadanija, the fourth chairman of Ibadan chapter of APWEN brings with her a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the cause of empowering women in engineering and beyond.

“Her leadership will undoubtedly propel our chapter to greater heights, and I have full confidence in her ability to inspire, innovate, and lead with integrity.
