…Forwards Nominees’ List To House Assembly

The governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, has nominated four of his former commissioners alongside 14 others for appointment as members of the state executive council.

The four returning nominees are:
Hadjia Saadat Modibbo-Kawu, wife of ace broadcaster and former Director General of the Nigeria Broadcast Commission, NBC, Mr. Lanre Modibbo-Kawu.

Mrs Moddibo-Kawu is from Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

Another returnee is Mallam Senior Suleiman from Ilorin West. Others are Mrs. Olaitan Buraimo, from Oyun and Mallam Aliyu Sabi from Baruten Local Government Areas respectively.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon (Engineer) Yakubu Danladi, read the letter transmitting the names of the nominees, addressed to him, to members on Monday during plenary session.

Rt. Honourable Danladi said that Governor AbdulRazaq, by the message had complied with Section 14, subsection 4, and Section 192, subsection 125 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

The 14 new nominees included Abdulganiyu Abdulazeez, Asa; Sheu Ndanusa, Edu; Afolasade Kemi, Ekiti; Dr Segun Ogunsola, Ifelodun;
Abdulqowiy Olododo, Ilorin East; Hauwa Nuru, Ilorin West; Damilola Yusuf, Isin; Oloruntosin Thomas, Isin; and Bola Olukoju Irepodun.

Also on the list were Abubakar Abdullahi, Kaiama; a former member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. John Bello, Moro; Dr Amina Al-Imam, Offa; Dr Mary Ayinde, Oke-Ero; and Usman Yinusa, Patigi.

The Speaker directed all the nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae to the office of the Clerk before the close of work on Tuesday August 15, for their screenings to commence on Wednesday, August 16.

The House also approved the governor’s request for the appointment of 10 Special Advisers, also contained in a letter received and also read at the plenary on Monday.

In his message, Governor AbdulRazaq noted that his action was in accordance with section 196 Subsection 1 of the Constitution, saying that his appointment of loyal and committed individuals who had required experiences and acumen to serve would facilitate smooth and hitch-free governance.

Also, the governor stressed that his action was quite desirable to ensure good distribution of dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of Kwara.

Meanwhile the House had urged Governor AbdulRazaq to direct the state Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to liaise with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to urgently embark on a statewide vaccination of livestock with anthrax spore vaccine.

The directive was sequel to a Motion on Notice, titled “Need for Urgent Control of Community Spread of Anthrax Pandemic in Kwara State,” sponsored by Hon. Razaq Owolabi, APC/ Share/Oke-Ode state onstutuency.

Also, the House implored the state government to direct the Ministry of Communication to embark on a massive public awareness and sensitization of the citizens, stressing that citizens needed to be sensitised on the need to practice and maintain personal and environmental hygiene as well as proper disposal of dead animals in other to prevent outbreak of anthrax disease in the state.

The lawmakers also stressed the need for the ministries in question to improve surveillance on activities of cattle rearers and butchers by ensuring that quarantine officers of federal, state and local government are made to be alive to their responsibilities.

Calling for concerted efforts to prevent outbreak of Anthrax in Kwara, members in their various contributions took turns to speak on the symptoms, infection and treatment of anthrax, which should be ensured by the government.
