Forum of Past and Present Student Union Leaders in Cross River State have expressed their willingness to put their support behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, who is locking horns with other contenders in the governorship race.

The students’ forum spokesman, Comrade John Inaku, stated that present and old student leaders, particularly from the University of Calabar, Unical have made up their minds to throw their weight behind Senator Otu, who they have confidence in, and no one else, in as much as election matter is concerned.

He said, “Having had a personal evaluation among the candidates who are in the race, Otu’s candidature is the best.

“Having engaged ourselves in various meetings, we discovered that Otu is the preferred candidate.”

Also speaking on the issue, an academic don in the University of Calabar, who is also convener of the meeting, Prof. Francisca Bassey, stated, “Having taken a critical evaluation of the personalities, track records, character and a test of capacity of key contestants, we are convinced that Otu is who Cross Riverians need for now, given the many challenges, confronting us as Cross Riverians.

The university don stated that the students’ union leaders decided to come together to galvanize support for Otu’s aspirations.

Insisting that as individuals living in Cross River State, the convener said that they can’t fold their arms and watch things go the other way round.

He added that it’s based on this reason that the students’ union leaders’ forum took a decision and engage actively in support of Senator Prince Otu.

Bassey said, “After much consultation, we have resolved that the only candidate who
has the character, the competence and track record to deliver is Senator Prince Bassey Otu.

“It is therefore our stand to support Senator Prince Bassey Otu and his ambition to serve the people of Cross River State.”
