…Urges Tinubu, Akande To Disclose Wealth Source
The acting leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has urged the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to investigate the allegation made against him by former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, that the National Leader of APC and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, built his Lekki
house for him; just as he urged the commission to investigate the source of Tinubu’s wealth and properties acquired by Akande.
Addressing the press at his Lekki residence, Chief Adebanjo said that he built his house from his resources and a loan he took from Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB.
He maintained that, he raised the money by selling three of his properties, including the property he inherited from his mother, adding that when the burden of repaying the loan he took from the bank was too much on him, he had to sell a portion of land late Chief Obafemi Awolowo gave to him at Ibeju Lekki to offset the loan.
He, however, showed evidence of the property he sold and mentioned those he sold them to.
Chief Adebanjo explained that he decided to relocate from Surulere, where he was residing because of frequent attack by armed robbers, and his family no longer felt comfortable to live in the environment.
Insisting that he expected Tinubu to debunk the allegation made by Akande immediately, because he knew better than him, Adebanjo said that he was disappointed that Tinubu dialed to do that.
He admitted that although he is not rich, he has integrity which he cherished.
He explained that his house in Lekki and a three bedroom flat he built in his town – Isanya Ogbo – were the only properties he has.
Chief Adebanjo said, “The Lekki property, the house in my village, Isanya Ogbo, which I built 40 years ago, and a three-bedroom flat in a town house, at Omorinre Street, in Lekki are the properties I have in the whole world.
“I hereby authorize the EFCC to verify the above facts. It is alleged that Chief Akande’s building at Ila-Orogun, which I understand is more than double in expanse of my house in Lekki and some other properties he has in Lagos and abroad were financed by Bola Tinubu.
“His house in Ibadan was also alleged to have been built by the contractor that built the secretariat in Osogbo, when he was the governor of Osun State.
“I hereby challenge Chief Bisi Akande to clear the air by disclosing the source of financing of these properties as I have done above.
“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the great philanthropist should also disclose the source of his wealth, with which he bankrolled the elections of the APC in the South-West and that of General Muhammadu Buhari and his various properties in Lagos. He should also authorize the EFCC to verify such details as I have done above.”
On whether he will institute a legal action against Chief Akande, Chief Adebanjo said that he won’t do that, and all he needed to do was to debunk the allegation, adding that Akande is so junior to him politically.
Moreso, he alleged that it was greed that made Akande to say all what he said and he thought everybody was like him.
