In a robust effort to tackle the escalating number of out-of-school children, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has just concluded the second phase of the skill acquisition training for parents and guardians of out-of-school children enrolled into public primary schools in the state.
The program aims to empower families, enhance their livelihoods, and promote consistent school attendance by the children.
In the second phase of the three-week skill acquisition programme, under Project Zero, 200 parents and guardians were successfully trained.
At the graduation ceremony held on August 30, 2024, at LASUBEB’s multi-purpose hall, the executive chairman if the board, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, highlighted that a total of 450 parents had benefited from the programme.
He emphasized the board’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment that underscores the significance of education.
Dr. Shittu pointed that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is steadfast in its mission to reduce the number of school-age children not attending school.
He remarked, “This initiative not only aimed at improving enrolment and retention rates, but also seeks to fortify community bonds through active engagement in the educational process.
“LASUBEB’s proactive measures to address the out-of-school crisis reflect a commitment to leaving no child behind in the access to free quality basic education.”
The training covered various skills, including hair and wig making, events decoration and management, fabric stoning and embellishment, snacks and beverage production, soap and pomade making, throw pillow and duvet creation, Ankara crafts, leather works, as well as makeup and gele tying, and tie-dye techniques.
