Searches are ongoing for the remaining parts of a bodyless head of a boy suspected to be a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, found in a black celophane bag in Ilorin.
The head, later identified to be that of one ‘Olawale’ by his mother, was said to have been dropped by Unity (Folawiyo Road) Roundabout, close to both the Police Metro Area Command and the ‘A’ Division in the Kwara State capital.
Olawale believed to belong to a cult group, must have been gruesomely killed by a rival group, who severed his head and dumped it overnight at the said location and took away the torso.
Recounting the events leading to the discovery of the bodiless head, Olawale’s mother in a very sad mood, revealed that the search for him had been mounted for several hours before his bodyless head was later found.
Shedding tears profusely, the bereaved mother said that her son left home about 8 p.m the previous night, but when his return became unusually long, the family became apprehensive and began the search for him.
She said her son had of recent started going out by 8 p.m daily and coming back late but he was unusually late on the fateful day only to discover that he had been killed in the terrible manner.
The deceased was, aside being a student of the state Polytechnic, also known to be a phone seller and repairer at a popular phone market at ‘Challenge’ area of Ilorin.
The distraught mother told journalists, “Olawale left home past 8 p.m on Monday evening. But when he didn’t return on time, which was unusual of him, I called his number several times, but there was no response.
“We now decided to report at the ‘A’ Division Police Station and also went to his school and search hospitals, perhaps he had been involved in an accident.
“However, it was while searching for him that we saw some persons gathered around a spot along Unity Road, taking pictures of something on the ground, which later turned to be the severed head of my son.”
Meanwhile, the police has spread out its dragnets to track down the perpectrators of the heinous crime, according to the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ajayi Okasanmi, SP.
The Police spokesperson had told newsmen that “while responding to a distress call, a bodiless head was recovered at Challenge area of Ilorin on Tuesday.
“Investigations so far confirmed it was an attack by cultists. The deceased was also a suspected cultist, an alleged student of Kwara Polytechnic.”
