…Passes Vote Of Confidence In His FUOYE Governing Council Leadership

The South-West Zone D of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has paid a courtesy visit to the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council if the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti,FUOYE, distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, in his office at the main campus of the institution.

The students, led by the zonal coordinator, Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, a postgraduate student of FUOYE, said they were in the office of the Pro-Chancellor to officially welcome him to the university, which falls within the jurisdiction of the South-West Zone D of NANS.

Comrade Taiwo, who is the leader of all the students in the South-West region of the country, said they also came to declare total support for Ndoma-Egba’s leadership of the FUOYE Governing Council and to pass a vote of confidence in him.

The student leader expressed delight over the appointment of Ndoma-Egba as FUOYE Pro-Chancellor, believing that the university will make significant progress under his chairmanship of the Governing Council.

He said their confidence in Ndoma-Egba’s headship of the Governing Council was borne out of their knowledge of his antecedents in the Senate and his wealth of experience in administration and governance.

Taiwo said, “We are here to formally welcome you to FUOYE and to show our solidarity to you and pass a vote of confidence in your leadership. We are confident that FUOYE is going to go a long way under your chairmanship of the Governing Council, knowing your records in the Red Chamber and your huge wealth of experience.”

Responding, Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Leader and erstwhile Chairman of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, thanked the students for the visit and assured them of his readiness to work with them, saying that his doors were open for them to gain access to him at all times.

Ndoma-Egba said, “I thank you for your pledge of loyalty and support. I need it. The university exists because there are students. Remove the students, FUOYE has no reason to exist. So, you are the biggest stakeholders in this university. The university is your property and you must guard your property with all your might and all your strength because it’s your property. Take the students out, I will have no business being here. I’m here because of you people.

“So, this is your property and you must protect not only the physical structures but also the reputation and integrity of your school. If you have messed up the integrity and reputation of the school, the certificates we will issue to you at the end of the day will be worthless.

“I want to assure you that I will work with you guys. My doors are open. I am here to talk with you guys anytime. If you have issues, please feel free to come in here and let me know.

“I am very grateful for this courtesy call. And let it be the first call and not the last. You can come again and again.”

Speaking further, the legal luminary noted that FUOYE has achieved a lot and grown astronomically, far ahead of its peers and even some older universities.

He added, “FUOYE is far, far ahead of its peers, that is, the universities that were established at the same time with it. Using every known index, FUOYE is far ahead of its peers. In terms of courses or course content, we are far ahead. We have 15 faculties with accredited programmes. We have a student population that is over 50,000. In 14 years, we have become the fourth most subscribed university in Nigeria according to JAMB. And in this current session we had 55,000 applicants who wanted to study in FUOYE. Today, we are ranked number 15 by the current university ranking by the Times Higher Education world university rankings. That means that we are far ahead of universities that are decades older than us.”

The South-West NANS had equally last week during the inauguration of the Comrade Taiwo-led EXCO passed a vote of confidence in the Vice Chancellor, VC, of FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina for his remarkable efforts towards the total transformation and exponential growth of the 14-year-old university.

The South-West NANS Zone D had also conferred an award on the renowned professor of soil science and workaholic VC for his “charismatic leadership, professional capabilities and selfless service.”
