The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has emerged winner of the Independent Newspapers Governor of the Year, Tech Innovation, award for year 2023.
The award was presented to the governor, who was ably represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, with former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba as chairman.
The Tech Innovation award is in recognition of Governor Abiodun’s commitment to use innovation and technology to drive the economy of the Gateway State.
His innovative and technological approach to governance has propelled Ogun State to be the second best in the country in Internally Generated Revenue, IGR. His government also rolled out a gas-powered public transport system with the conversion of petrol/diesel buses to natural gas
The initiative would soon be extended to motorbikes and tricycles. In addition, the administration of Governor Abiodun also established the Ogun Tech Hub, while it has also put in place, the ‘Light Up Ogun State’ project, which is meant to provide electricity to the nooks and crannies of the state.
The governor is also deploying technology to fight crimes in the state with the commissioning of a top grade drone by the Inspector General of Police recently.
Aremo Osoba, while praising the organisers of the event, noted that the awards cut across political divide, zones, and religions.
Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas received the Governor of the Year, Education and Youth Employment; governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mansseh Mutfwang, emerged Governor of the Year, Infrastructure Development; governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno won Governor of the Year, Fiscal Discipline; governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Muhammadu Yahaya was Governor of the Year, Health; while governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, emerged Governor of the Year, Community Development.
Chief Olabode George and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu were also confered with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the event, amongst others.
