The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, yesterday charged the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, to adhere strictly to laid down policies of the Ministry of Education and ensure that they act accordingly for effective service delivery.
The commissioner gave the advice while playing host to the Cross River State chapter of the ANCOPSS, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Calabar.
Odey stressed that for the school system to go through reformation of any kind, abnormalities like illegal levies and under declaration of the students enrollment number in schools needs to be tackled.
He stressed that such abnormality would be unacceptable, warning that any one found wanting should be ready to face the consequences under his his watch.
The former lawmaker charged ANCOPSS members to be pacesetters by encouraging their subordinates to be more proactive, noting that it would no longer be business as usual, as he will be paying unscheduled visit to the schools.
Earlier, in his remarks, the President of the state chapter of the ANCOPSS, Mr Etim Essien, stated that the purpose of their visit was to congratulate the commissioner on his appointment.
Essien enumerated challenges faced by the Association to include: recruitment of teachers, lack of infrastructure, security and upward reviews of fees.
The commissioner called for collaboration between the association and the state in addressing issues bothering them, assuring them of his preparedness and the commitment of the Senator Prince Bassey Otu-led administration to ensure that the state educational sector undergo serious reformation for the good of the people.
