The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, on Tuesday in Calabar, bagged an award of honour from the Cross River State Postgraduate Students’ Government, CROSSPGRASA, of the University of Calabar.

The award of honour on Odey, who is also an Associate Professor, is for the numerous contributions he has made towards the development and upliftment of the education sector in the state.

The award was conferred on him by the student body during a courtesy visit to the commissioner’s office in the Ministry of Education headquarters, Calabar.

President of the post-graduate students’ union body, Comrade Callistus Agianpuye, while handing over the award plaque to the commissioner, in company of his team members, stated that the award is in recognition of the “commissioner’s numerous contributions towards the growth and development of our state education system, human capital development and philanthropic support to the society over the years.”

After the award presentation, Odey was further decorated in an investiture ceremony as the Patron of the students’ body.

The students appealed for the commissioner’s support to make the Post Graduate Students’ Union more vibrant.

In his remarks, the former parliamentarian thanked the students’ body for the honour done him, promising to collaborate with them for the good of the nation.

He charged the students not to relent in taking their studies seriously by making it their top priority, even as he assured them of his readiness to be in constant communication with them for the good of the state and nation at large.
