Management of the Cross River State University, UNICROSS, has admitted about 9,284 students to pursue various degree courses across 10 faculties in four campuses of the institution for the 2024/ 25 academic year.
UNICROSS Vice Chancellor, Prof. David Abua Ogar, disclosed this while speaking at the 23rd matriculation ceremony of the institution on Thursday in Calabar.
Breakdown of the admission includes Faculty of Agriculture, 40; Management Science, 1,374; Biological Sciences, 886; Architecture 157; Physical Sciences, 1,836; Communication Technology, 1,101; Engineering, 1,204; Education 1,554; Basic Medical Sciences, 820; and Environmental Sciences 302, totalling 9,284.
The Vice Chancellor charged the new students on humility, hard work, obedience to instructions, advising them to shun truancy and abide by the school rules so that they can graduate in flying colours.
Prof. Ogar said, “I urge you to prepare your hearts and minds, commence hard work from the beginning.
“The next four or five years of your academic
journey will be a defining period in your life, and you must not allow any form of distraction to derail you from achieving your goals.
“Today marks a milestone in your lives as you officially become members of the University of Cross River State.
“The ceremony signifies your acceptance into an academic family that is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and character formulation.
“It is a moment to celebrate, but it is also a moment to reflect on the journey ahead – a journey that will demand your hardwork, determination and focus.”
The VC threatened to sanction students who involved in anti-social behavior.
The matriculating students admitted into the institution got admission to pursue courses across 10 faculties in Agriculture, Management Sciences, Biological Sciences, Architecture, Physical Sciences, Communication Technology, Engineering, Education, Basic Medical Sciences and Environmental Sciences.
The VC advised the matriculating students not to relent in the engagement of lecturers and their peers whenever need be, stressing on the need to seek help from their academic adviser or counseling units for guidance if needed.
He enthused, “Manage your time wisely as time management is critical. Balance your academic responsibilities with personal development activities. Complete all assignments, assignments are not just tasks to be completed, but opportunity to deepen your understanding of course content.”
Ogar advised the new students to develop study schedule that will allow them to review materials thoroughly ahead of all semesters examinations If they so desire to graduate in flying colours.
