Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Dr. Stephen Odey, has warned principals of government-owned secondary schools in the state not to engage in sharp and unwholesome practices, so as not to thwart government’s efforts in the ongoing free registration exercise of students for Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, SSCE, initiative by Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration.

The administration of Governor Otu had upon coming on board announced that it was going to provide free registration of students of the state origin in public schools for the SSCE.

As part of the governor ‘s effort to ensure that he keeps to his words, the state government has asked principals of public secondary schools to ensure that the right thing is done

He urged them not to be involved in padding of any form, so as not to dent their image and that if their schools.

The commissioner gave the warning during a meeting with secondary school principals from Boki, Etung and Ikom local government areas of the state in his office in Calabar yesterday.

Odey, who met with the school principals for validation of the list ov students for the free SSCE registration exercise, said, “You are supposed to be embodiment of honesty, leaders in your places of primary assignments.

“As administrators of schools in your primary places of responsibilities, have it at the back of your minds that you are the eyes of the governor at your respective duty posts.

“The governor cannot be every where. You are part of the government. With you over there, governor shouldn’t have any cause to worry.

“Manage the schools assigned to you as if they were your personal property.

“Manage it with rapt attention as if it were your personal property.

“Be honest in your dealings as far as the registration exercise for the SSCE is concerned. The governor is passionate about the registration exercise.

The exercise which is aimed at validating and authenticating the earlier list submitted by the principals for the free SSCE registration to avoid padding.

He added, “You are supposed to be an embodiment of honesty; leaders in your own right and not the other way round.”
