The former senator representing Cross North senatorial district at the upper chamber of National Assembly, Senator Dr. Stephen Adi Odey, has promised to deploy the proceeds realized from sales of his two books in helping humanity.
Odey revealed this in a closing remarks he made during the launching of his books, titled: ‘Sociology of Law,’ and ‘Introduction To Industrial Sociology,’ which took place at Mary Ikpeiken Hall, Channel View Hotel, Calabar, yesterday.
He said, “My desire to put these ideas together in black and white wasn’t to make money, but to contribute my quota towards the book industry and development of knowledge.”
The former parliamentarian and current executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, who holds numerous degrees in Law and Sociology, averred that the initiative to put his ideas in print was to enable readers use his two books to broaden their horizon, and boost their knowledge on basic legal concepts into a layman’s understanding.
He claimed that those who read his books would have an edge in grasping sociological and legal conceptions, which are available to trained practitioners.
His creative mastery and approach in marrying social and legal fields into a socio-legal subject remain classical.
The books x-rayed legal phenomenons in the light of sociological insight and viewed societal occurrences through legal lens.
While extolling the virtues of Senator Odey, the Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade, described him as a honest, humble, hardworking and brilliant man who would get to the zenith of his career due to his humble disposition.
Ayade said, “God will grow you more than what I am. Steve Odey is a source of pride. What you did is the power of imaginative calculation. Odey has broken a new ground. We think alike with Senator Steve Odey.”
In his remarks, reader of Odey’s citation, Dr. Nwamo Gabriel, described Odey as an extraordinary character, whose trademark dwells more on integrity and humility.
He added that the book launch “is a thing of joy that would certainly encourage others.”
The two books were reviewed by two erudite professors from the University of Calabar, Prof Enang Ebingha, who the Dean, Faculty of Social Science, University of Calabar, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, DVC, administration and professor of law, Prof. Michael P. Okom.
