…As Team Ogun Departs For National Youth Games In Asaba

As the 8th edition of the National Youth Games kicks off on Wednesday, the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has charged officials and coaches of the state contingent to ensure maximum protection of their athletes.

Governor Abiodun, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, gave the charge on Tuesday while addressing the athletes and officials representing the state at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Over 300 athletes and officials departed the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta.

Abiodun enjoined the coaches and officials to ensure the eligibility of all athletes to avoid disqualification of the athletes, which will be an embarrassment to the state.

He, therefore, appealed to the athletes to give their best at the games and be vigilant and cautious of their environment.

He assured them of the state government’s support during and after the games.

He said, “I want to appeal to you to take care of the athletes and ensure their maximum security. You know, Delta is a different environment, and many of the athletes are teenagers who may not be able to find their way around, so ensure you monitor them and guarantee their safety at all times.

“Also, ensure the eligibility of all athletes to avoid disqualification of any of the athletes, which will be an embarrassment to the state. The athletes should also give their best at the games and be vigilant and cautious of their environment.

“I want to assure you of the state government’s support during and after the games. We are confident that Team Ogun will make the state proud and showcase the talent and dedication of our young athletes.”

Team Ogun contingent will compete in an impressive 28 sports, showcasing their skills and talents in boxing, cricket, cycling, darts, gymnastics, handball, swimming, rugby, scrabble, shooting, squash, tennis, abula, badminton, para table tennis, table tennis, athletics, chess, ayo olopon, and judo.
