The Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Disciplinary Committee in Cross River State, Mr. Bonie Adie, yesterday in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, threw light on the circumstance that led to the suspension of the LP state chairman, Mr. Ogar Osim, alleging that Osim was involved in the embezzlement of fund and he is incompetent to lead the party.
Adie stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Calabar yesterday, stressing that the embattled chairman and party secretary, Mr. Felix Etim, lacked the capacity to manage the affairs of the party.
The disciplinary committee chairman stressed that the duo were found wanting after the committee x-rayed the party ‘s record.
A statement from the LP disciplinary committee, signed by its chairman and secretary, Bonie Adie and Ibiang Igiri, respectively indicted Osim and his secretary, Felix Etim of involving themselves in anti-party activity and mismanaging the party’s affairs.
The disciplinary committee chairman further announced the appointment of an acting chairman and secretary, Mr. Eugene Obia and Allen Ekpe respectively.
The statement averred that Obia and Ekpe are to remain in acting capacity pending when a congress would be hold to elect substantive chairman and secretary.
The statement added, “We are confident that Mr Obia and Mr Ekpe who have been appointed in acting capacities will provide strong leadership and ensure the smooth functioning of the Labour Party in the state.”
Reacting to the development, the embattled state chairman of the LP, Osim said his purported suspension is laughable.
He told CompassNG, “Those who signed the purported suspension letter are not even known to Labour Party; they are impostors, because their names are not in the party register.”
