…Pledged Qualitative Representation For Zone
By ‘Wole Adedeji, Ilorin
The Kwara South senatorial district has not been lucky to have good representation at the upper legislative chambers of the National Assembly; and this has adversely affected the area over the years.
This was the submission of the senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, for Kwara South senatorial district in the forthcoming National Assembly election, Professor Wale Ibrahim Sulaiman, at a press conference held at the Kwara State NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin, where he vowed that he is coming to save the situation.
Prof. Sulaiman averred that Kwara South “has remained significantly underdeveloped for the past 30 years. This is despite our people’s active participations in the electionering process. It is time we stopped allowing the political elites from using our people as mere ‘voters’.
“The time has come for us all to be critical stakeholders in the affairs of our region and take our destinies into our hands.”
The erudite scholar promised that in the next 42 days, when the election into the Senate would have come and he had been elected, the era of genuine representation in the Senate for the senatorial district would have begun.
The era, he said, would come to separate individuals like him with “a clear vision, mission, skills and capabilities to deliver a more progressive, prosperous and united Kwara South from political elites working for only a handful of people.”
He also said that he had come out to put an end to the reign of those who are people fearing politicians that he said could not deliver dividends of democracy owed the people and let the God fearing individuals that would not “divert the much needed
resources of Kwara South to other districts by instructions of their godfathers.
Launching his campaign team, called ‘Kwara South Rescue Mission,’ and his programme called ‘Kwara South Prosperity Agenda,’ Professor Sulaiman declared that he would transform Kwara South to one of the best places to live in North Central Nigeria, and make it a wealth-creating region by attracting investors.
Also, he said while in the Senate, he would promote the wellbeing of the people of the region through equitable access to food, road, shelter, free education, healthcare and job opportunities for a growing youthful population.
He is contesting against Senator Rafiu Ibrahim of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the incumbent Senator Lola Ashiru of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
While Senator Ibrahim of the PDP, who once served as senator representing the zone may have to contend with the current popularity burden of his party, the incumbent, Senator Ashiru of the ruling APC is having issues with widely alleged low rating on the performance scale.
