Nigeria’s former ambassador to the Republic of Netherlands, Dr Nimota Nihinlola Akanbi, has denied that her police orderly was carrying her food at a public function in Ilorin, Kwara State recently.
There had been a video footage showing a policeman; the orderly of the former envoy and now the Chairman, Governing Board of the National Secondary School Education Commission, carrying a food tray closely following her behind.
The acting Police Force Public Relations Officer; Muyiwa Adejobi, was reported to have said in Abuja that the police is probing the matter.
He was quoted to have said in a chat with newsmen that “the police officer had been identified and summoned to Abuja.”
Olujobi added, “He (the policeman) has been identified. He is coning to Abuja to meet us. We’ll ask questions from him and take necessary action.
“We need to discourage such a thing, because it is embarassing the image of the Force and we can’t continue to be experiencing that kind of a thing; because it is highly unprofessional.”
Defending herself and the police orderly in a statement in Ilorin, Ambassador Akanbi said that the police orderly was not carrying her food “as being portrayed in viral video on the social media.”
She insisted that the police orderly was simply carrying his own food at a community engagement they both attended in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Ambassador Akanbi said, “The truth is that I allowed him (police orderly) to pick his food. I am a teacher and a disciplinarian.”
She pleaded with Nigerians to disregard the viral video, saying that it might be the handiwork of her detractors; stressing that she understood the importance and nature of work of security operatives and that she would never do anything to demean them.
