The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, will host the annual lectures of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, NAL, where eminent professors of the Arts, including Profs. Femi Osofisan and Francis Egbokhare, among other distinguished scholars are set to attend.
The 2021 edition of NAL lectures holds on Thursday, March 4.

NAL Secretary, Prof. Kehinde Ayobami, disclosed this yesterday, while speaking in a telephone conversion with newsmen in Calabar.

The NAL secretary stressed that the meeting, with an ID 895 431 0035 would host several men of letters, drawn from different famous universities, who would be participants at the event.

While lauding the management of the University of Calabar for accepting to host the ceremony, the secretary averred that the NAL annual lecture earlier scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2020, was postponed due to some unforeseen circumstances, stressing that the ceremony will now hold virtually, via Zoom, on Thursday, March 4th, 2021, at 10 am (WAT) with Prof Florence Obi as chief host.

The 2021 lecture entitled: “History and the Mythopoeic Vocation: The Nation as Capricious Grand Guignol?” will be delivered by Prof Emeritus Femi Osofisan and chaired by the President of NAL, Professor Egbokhare, and supported by Professor Kehinde, NAL Secretary.

Speaking also, the chairman of local organising committe/ Director, Teaching and Learning Excellence, University of Calabar, Prof Monday T. Joshua, stated that it is an honour done UNICAL to play host to such a prestigious event.

Unical Vice Chancellor, Prof Obi, will deliver a welcome address, asking all participants in the ceremony to log in on time as the committee has made all necessary arrangements to make it a success.

The Nigerian Academy of Letters, inaugurated at a meeting held at the University of Ibadan on November 14, 1991, is the apex organisation of the Nigerian academics and scholars in humanities and aimed at promoting academic excellence in all branches of humanities.
