Former state lawmaker and two-term chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Hon Bassey Akiba, has been declared winner of the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani federal constituency election.
Hon. Akiba who won his election under the umbrella of the Labour Party, LP, according to the returning officer, secured a total of 23,759 votes to defeat his closest rival, Edim Inok of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who secured 21,066 votes.
The returning officer for the election said, “That Bassey Akiba, having secured the highest number of votes and having fulfilled all requirements of the Iaw is hereby declared winner of the election and is returned elected.”
With the results, the two-term chairman of Odukpani council has been able to dislodge the incumbent member of the federal constituency, Eta Mbora, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who came a distant third with 19,584 votes.
