…85% Rice Sent To Ondo Turns Green
South West governors have rejected the bags of rice donated to the zone by the Federal Government as palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Oyo State government, for instance, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the state governor on AgricBusiness, Dr. Debo Akande, said that the rice have been infected by weevil and other pests, making them unhealthy for human consumption.
Despite criticisms generated by the statement alleging that Oyo State Governor Seti Makinde, being an opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governor, was playing politics with the matter without consideratiin for the suffering of his people who are currently wallowing in the euphoria of hunger and starvation, investigations have shown that the decision to reject the rice was taken during a virtual meeting between the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, presided over by its Chairman and Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and rge Federal Government, represented by the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
A close aide of Ondo State Governor Okuwarotimi Akeredolu, speaking under condition of anonymity, disclosed that the Ondo State government has rejected her own portion of the rice because 85 per cent of it have been infected by pests and now green in colour.
He said, “Eighty-five oer cent of the rice has changed to colour green. We dare not share it to animals, talk less of human beings, not even prisoners on death row.”
He explained tgat the Ondo State government chose to keep mum iver the issue, unluke its Oyo State counterpart because “we are in the All Progressives Congress, APC, like Abuja people; we cannot address the public like Makinde who is a PDP governor.”
He added, “The fact is the governors unanimously pleaded with Makinde to fly the news and that’s why I am calling you to help us fly it that it is not only Oyo rice that is not good, but tge rice for all the six states if the South West. VP Osinbajo has been briefed since yesterday. The rice is not good for human consumption.
“Lagos is not returning their own, they are dumping everything inside tge lagoon; Osun, Ogun and Ekiti are returning their portions to Lagos, where it was disbursed,” the aide concluded.
