The Vice Chancellor, Cross River State University of Technology, CRUTECH, Prof. Austine Oko Angba, has charged matriculating students of the institution not to indulge in vices like sorting and scamming (Yahoo Yahoo) of members of the university community, (internet fraud), so that they don’t get their dreams shattered in the course of pursuing their programmes of study.

The VC charged the 6,250 newly-admitted students not to listen to rumours propagated by the institution’s enemies that good grade is only made through sorting.

Angba gave the warning during the institution’s 19th matriculation ceremony, which took place on Wednesday in Calabar.

He said, “This is not true as the university condemns sorting completely, and in strong terms.”

Promising to reward students who behaved well accordingly, the VC stated that the ceremony is not just for wearing of academic gown, or an event meant for freshers to showcase thier victory over JAMB.

He added, “It is an initiation into the ivory tower, a place where your intellect is horned; a place where erstwhile unquestioned ideas are turned into intellectual quest.

“A place where your ingnorance is replaced with knowledge; a place where you are to grow into man and woman of impeccable character for the purpose of enhancing humanity.”

Other vices frowned at by the VC of CRUTECH include: arson, examination malpractice, cultism, and certificate racketeering among others.

Promising to put in all his best to ensure that students of the institution excelled in thier various areas of discipline, the university don added that creating a conducive atmosphere for students to learn remains his major priority.

He called for support from all so that a good legacy can be left behind by the inatitution for the generation to come.
