A mega flour mill owned by the Kebbi State government has commenced full production.

The mill is located at the Bulasa Industrial Estate, near the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari stated that during an inspection visit on Thursday, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was conducted round various sections of the factory by the former Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, accompanied by the incumbent Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Joel Aiki and the Chief Engineer of the mill, Engineer Ayuba Musa Kudu, from Nassarawa State.

Engineer Kudu informed the governor that the flour mill has the capacity to process wheat, sorghum, millet and maize into peculiar flour, including animal feeds.

End products of the mill are flour for bread-making and confectionaries, semolina, semovita, couscous and animal feeds.

Engineer Kudu revealed that the mill has an independent source of power supply because of the amount of electricity consumption peculiar to such factory.

The former Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Maccido gave glad tidings that wheat produced by farmers in the state and other places would be purchased as raw materials by the company, which would increase their profit margins.

He made it clear that the quality of various flour produced by the mill was of high quality, and competitive on the international market, saying that the company has an objective to export its products to other African countries.

The former commissioner described the flour mill as the first of its kind in the defunct Sokoto State, now comprising Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto states.

Governor Bagudu, who was highly elated about the commencement of production by the factory, expressed his delight and commended the former Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Maccido and his team for achieving such feat.

Senator Bagudu, who watched the machines in operation, also sampled the end products being milled in accordance with quality requirement.

The governor expressed happiness that the flour mill was another testimony about the legacy of his administration on industrialization, economic prosperity, employment opportunity and wealth creation.

As the Vice-Chairman, National Food Security Council and the Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat Production in Nigeria, Senator Bagudu expressed the confidence that the mill would be self-sustainable with large profit intake.

Governor Bagudu said that the mill would add value to the economy of the state, as well as that of the country.

Expressing the delight that the mill was commencing operational production with just about two weeks to the beginning of the Ramadan fast, Senator Bagudu extolled President Muhammadu Buhari for raising the consciousness of Nigerians on producing what they eat.

He also expressed the optimism that the duo of President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shetima, will sustain the feat.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by the state co-ordinator, Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, Alhaji Usman Balgore.
