The Cross River State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Mrs. Agnes Atsu, has charged Rovers FC of Calabar, to be magnanimous in their victory so that they can win more trophies for the state.
The commissioner gave the charge during the presentation of a trophy won by the football team to the commissioner in Calabar yesterday.
At the just concluded Cross River State FA Pre-Season Football Tournament, which took place in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, where Rovers FC won the trophy, the Commissioner for Sports Development lauded the team for showcasing exceptional performance through out the tournament.
She hailed the team for breaking the jinx and coasting home with victory after playing five games and winning all the five games that they played.
Among the attributes which the commissioner said she admired in the team were the team’s extrardinary striking ability which resulted in many goals thereby creating opportunity for the team to carve a niche for itself, thereby making the team to stand tall among other football teams.
She said, “Like the eagle, the team soared so high and made its nest among the stars, despite the team conceding just a single goal in the entire tournament.
“You did so well. I must confess; we are indeed very proud of you. We hope that you sustain this tempo.
“This is not just a celebration for the victory, but a way to show that we are determined to revived sports in Cross River State in less than no time.”
Explaining how Rovers FC arrived at the stride made by the football club under her watch, the commissioner stated that the journey towards victory began with the club’s 3-0 win against Prince 7 FC; a 3-1 victory against May/Frank FC, a walkover against Diamond Stars FC, a 4-0 victory against Essien Ayi FC, and 2-0 win against Frank/May FC.
