A 26-year-old single lady, Rukayat Shittu, has been declared the winner of a seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly election.

The new legislator-elect was the Senate President of the Congress of Students at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor Hakeem Ijaya, who announced Shittu’s victory said that the 26 years old, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled 7,521 votes to beat her Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, rival, who polled 6,957 votes in the House of Assembly election.

Shittu will be representing Owode/Onire State constituency of Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State. The local government area is part of the Ilorin Emirate.

Similarly, INEC also declared the current Speaker, Kwara House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, of the APC the winner of the Ilesha-Gwanara state constituency to retain his seat in the House, and possibly, his number one lawmaker slot as well.

Danladi-Salihu defeated his main rival, Usman Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Declaring the result at the collation centre for the Ilesha/Gwanara constituency at the Gwanara LGEA Primary School, the Returning Officer, Dr. Adewale Rafiu, said that Danladi-Salihu polled 14,949 votes while his closest rival, PDP’s Abubakar got 2,072 votes.

Dr Radius said, “Yakubu Danladi-Salihu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared returned and elected.”
