The legislative staff of the National Assembly has expressed enthusiasm for the aspiration of former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, for the Senate President.
The staff expressed their preference for Akpabio during a meeting with the Convener, ‘The Godswill Project,’ Femi Odere, in Abuja on Monday with representatives of the legislative staff, saying that they have come to express solidarity, enthusiasm, and support for Akpabio’s bid for the Senate Presidency, as they consider themselves “important stakeholders of the National Assembly who know the characters and competence or otherwise of the ranking members of the Assembly.”
In their remarks, they said that they are vehemently against whomsoever are being supported, or going to be supported by the current Senate President and Speaker, as they have never had it so bad under their leadership.
They said, “We have suffered too much under Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, that we know for sure that their preferred candidates cannot be good for our collective interests.
“To let you know how wicked Lawan can be, could you believe that he disconnected both the water and electricity of his bodyguard who lives next door to him?
“We are the ones who work directly with these people. We know them more than they know themselves. We do not doubt that our collective interests would be better served with Akpabio than anyone of them. Senator Akpabio is a replica of the President-elect, who wants you to grow and be happy doing your job.
“DS Idris Wase is another leader we know we won’t have any problems with if he assumes the Speakership of the House.”
The members of the parliamentary staff said that the last time they had it so good was when Ken Nnamani and Dimeji Bankole were Senate President and House Speaker respectively.
In his response, the Convener of The Godswill Project, Odere, said that he was very pleased with the show of support for Akpabio.
He said, “You have come of your own volition, without any goading from any quarters, to express confidence in Godswill Akpabio.
“This is another testament that the integrity and reputation of the incoming Senate President are well recognized and cut across every strata of society.”
