Following the alleged highjack of the peaceful protests by youths across the country against the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, by suspected criminals and hoodlums, who allegedly hid under the protests to unleash mayhems, the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has imposed a 24-hour curfew on every nooks and cranny of the Centre of Excellence effective 4 pm Tuesday evening.

The imposition of the 24-hour curfew followed the wanton attacks on police stations, robberies, looting and molestation of motorists and other citizens by hoodlums and other criminal elements posing as protesters.

In a tweet at about 11:49 on Tuesday, October 20, Sanwo-Olu said, “I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #End SARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well being of our society.

“Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our state.

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to thr movement #End SARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our state.

“I therefore hereby impose a 24-houe curfew on all parts of the state from 4pm today, 20th October, 2020.

“Nobody, except essential services providers and first responders must be found on the streets.”
