President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday submitted the first Tranche if ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
The first batch of the nominees, which included 28 names, were contained in a letter addressed by President Tinubu to Senate President Gods will Akpabio, was delivered to the Senate President by the Chief of Staff, CoS, to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The ministerial nominees include: Abubakar Momoh; Ambassador Yusuf Miatama Tukur, CON; Arch. Ahmed Dangiwa; Barr. Hannatu Musawa; Chief Uche Nnaji, National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Berta Edu; Dr. Dorris Aniche Uzoka; former governors of Ebonyi, Rivers, Jigawa, and Kaduna states, His Excellencies David Umahi, Nyesom Wike, Badaru Abubakar, CON, and Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai respectively.
Others are: Rt. Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo; Hon. Nkiru Onyeojiocha; Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Hon. Stella Okotette; Hon. Uju Kennedy Ohaneye;
Mr. Bello Muhammad G; Mr. Dele Alake; Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; and Mr. Muhammad Idris.
Other who made the list included: Mr. Olawale Edun; the gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party in the last gubernatorial election in Oyo State, Mr. Waheed Adebayo Adelabu; Mrs Iman Suleiman Ibrahim; Professor Ali Pate; Professor Joseph; Senator Abubakar Kyari; Senator John Eno; and Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi.
With the submission of the ministerial list, the President beat the 60-day deadline provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which stipulated a 60-day window for governors and President to submit commissioner and ministerial nominees respectively for confirmation to the states Houses of Assembly and the Senate.
Recall that the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, had in Tuesday informed that the President promised to present his ministerial nominees to the Senate with 24 hours.
With the submission of the list, the Senate is expected to shelve it’s annual recess to allow for the screening of the nominees.
