…Says Endowment Panacea To Funding Of Tertiary Institutions

…Bags NASU Recognition Award Alongside Monarch, 9 Others

As the 2022 Week of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, the Polytechnic Ibadan branch climaxed on Wednesday, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Oyo South senatorial district, in the forthcoming 2023 National Assembly elections, Mogaji Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has charged politicians to have the fear of God in all their dealings.

Mogaji Tegbe said this while speaking at the grand finale of the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU Week 2022, which held at the Cooperative Building in the North Campus of the Polytechnic.

He identified the number one problem of education in Nigeria as the debase of our value system, charging his audience to be honest in all their dealings.

He also urged the people to take the leadership to question to be able to get value for their votes; even as he charged them to be the change they want to see.

This was just as he pledged that if voted into the Senate, he will be having engagements with tertiary institutions and his constituents every six months.

Speaking after he was conferred with an award of recognition by the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU for his contribution to the institution’s NASU and humanity, Tegbe averred that the major and viable source of funding tertiary education is through endowment.

He said, “All over the world, endowment is the major source of funding education in tertiary institutions and Nigeria can not be different.”

While appreciating NASU for finding him worthy for the award, Mogaji Tegbe said that his watch word is what he called the ‘Three Ds,’ which he said means “Develop yourself, develop the people around you and develop your community.”

He said that only when politicians have the fear of God that they would be able to deal with the people equitably, justly and fairly.

Other recipients of the award of recognition from the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU, apart from Tegbe, include: Alhaji Rafiu Bolaji Akinyemi; the Aare of Ofikiland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Gbenga Adigun Adeoye; Dr N.A Adebayo, Mr Remi Olalere, Mayor Isaac Brown, the institution’s bursar, Mr Olawale Ojetola; Arc. Festus Fawohunre; Ajibola Akinyefa Williams; Baale Sule Akande Oladoja; and former chairman of ATISBO Local Government and former commissioner in Oyo State, Hon. Joe Agboola Makanjuola; who was represented by his son.

In his reaction to the award of excellence, Oba Adeoye, apologised for coming late, which was due to a prior engagement with the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

He expressed his delight at the award and also appreciated the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU for counting him worthy to be recognised.

In his speech at the event, the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Adekunle Akande, reminded his comrades of the giant strides that his administration, with the cooperation of his executive and the over 360 members of NASU in the institution, has achieved.
