…Silent On Kidnapped C’River Women Affairs Commissioner

The Cross River State Police Command on Thursday at its headquarters in Calabar, paraded 21 suspects for their alleged involvement in various crimes.
Among the suspects paraded by the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Sule Balarabe, were four notorious kidnappers, two dreaded armed robbers/cultist, among several others.
The police also recoverd dangerous weapons from the suspects, including: one AK46 riffle, three locally made pistols, one G3 riffle, seven locally made single barrel guns also with several manufacturer accessories, a telecommunication gadget, one live catridge, three empty catridges and substances suspected to be hard drugs and pieces of charms, often used by the suspected criminals during their deadly operations.
Speaking on the issue, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Balarabe, stated that suspects will be charged to court, but couldn’t tell journalists how many convictions the command has achieved in the last one year.
The CP however pledged the command’s willingness to increase visibility policing in the state, improve inter-agency partnership, intelligence sharing, confidence building patrols and heightened surveillance activities to drastically check crime wave in the state.
The Police Command however kept mum on the kidnap of the Cross River State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Associate Prof. Getrude Njar who was whisked to an unknown destination by unknown gunmen two days ago.
The Women Affairs commissioner, who also lectures at the University of Calabar, was said to have been abducted by armed gunmen along Maybe Avenue, in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state capital, with her car abandoned somewhere in the capital city.
