The wife of Oyo State governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunominini Makinde, on Friday January 1, 2021 welcomed the first babies of the year 2021 at Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan and Jericho Nursing Home, Ibadan.

Represented by wife of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Bolanle Olaniyan, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Fausat Sanni and other officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Makinde named the first baby of the year, a girl, weighing 3.2 kilogrammes, born to the family of Mr and Mrs Imran at 12.01 a.m. Ramat, to commiserate with Mrs Sanni, who just lost her mother during the week.

The second baby of the year, a boy, was born at Jericho Nursing Home to the family of Mr and Mrs. Obi, at 12: 25 a.m., weighing 3.7kg.

The third baby, a female, was born at 2:40 a.m. to Ms. Kehinde Oyewunmi at Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Yemetu.

Mrs Makinde said that the birth of a child was not by chance and required that the mother enjoy adequate care to ensure that she lived a healthy life, while pregnant and got skilled care during labour and delivery.

She added the birth of a child brings blessing to a society, and symbolises the assurance that human heritage and life is preserved to the next generation.

Mrs Makinde presented gift items to the babies during her goodwill visits to Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, and Jericho Nursing Home, Ibadan. The gifts included baby essentials and other baby gifts.

The mothers thanked the Oyo State government for the kind gesture.
