For assaulting a member of the National Youth Service Corps, a student of Anglican Commercial Secondary School, Orita-Mefa, Ibadan, Ojo Roqeeb, has been handed a one-minth suspension from school by the Oyo State government.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Rahman Abiodun Abdu- Raheem who gave the suspension order on Tuesday, frowned at the reported case of the SSS 2 student, slapping a corps member.
The commissioner, while in a visit to the school, also said that the suspension will serve as a deterrent to other students, adding that a letter of suspension of the student be given to his parents.
He also insisted that the student, on return from the one-minth suspension, must apologize to the corps member and sign an undertaking, not to repeat such act.
Addressing the students of the school, the commissioner charged them to be of good behaviour, reiterating that the Oyo State government will not condone any act of indiscipline.
He therefore sternly warned that any student caught, acting in uncivilized manner, will henceforth be dismissed from schools in Oyo State.
Barr Abdu-Raheem also charged teachers to be more dedicated to and punctual at work.
