The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has extended heartfelt felicitations to Professor Olumuyiwa Popoola on his admission as a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, NAL.
This was contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Demola Babalola, on Tuesday, which stated that Professor Popoola is an erudite scholar and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
He is a Professor of Journalism, Communication and Media Studies.
Taken by providence to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he bagged Bachelor of Arts, BA Honours in Mass Communication, with First Class in 1999; and won the prizes for the best graduating student in the department, and the best final year student in the Faculty.
He subsequently obtained a Master of Science, M.Sc, in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, where like in Nsukka, he earned the university teaching assistantship award, and was recognized for recording the best performance on the programme.
His persistent thirst for knowledge, hard work and excellence was crowned with the award of the Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D , in Media and Cultural Studies, by the University of Ibadan.
Pof. Popoola was at various times the Head of Department of Communication and Media Studies, Director of Media Center, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, and Member of the Governing Council, amongst others.
The erudite professor is happily married with children.
