Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was early Sunday morning declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship pimary election held on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, declared Oyetola the winner of the primary election in the early hours of Sunday at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Abdulrazaq said that Oyetola polled 222,169 to defeat his closest rival, the former Secretary to the Osun State Government, SSG Moshood Adeoti, who garnered 12,921, while the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, came third with 460 votes.

The results is a demonstrate of the near absence of the much touted political influence of the immediate past governor of Osun State and incumbent Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who backed Adeoti in a bitter contest for the party ticket for the upcoming July governorship polls.

The Primary Election Committee chairman, AbdulRazaq, said that Oyetola won in all the 30 local government areas of the state, adding that a total of 408,697 voters were registered for the APC primary election, while 247,207 voters were accredited to vote.

He noted further that the total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550.

In his remarks, the Osun State APC chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, commended the committee and the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the successful conduct of the exercise.
