…Described Comment Ask Mischievous
Former governor of Osun State and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has denied a statement credited to him, making the rounds, over the raging controversy over the state’s debt profile; describing the statement as “mischievous.”
The denial was contained in a press statement signed by the Media Adviser to the minister, Sola Fasure, and made available to newsmen on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
Recall that there is ongoing controversy over the N405 billion-debt inherited by the Ademola Adeleke administration, between the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Governor Adeleke.
The statement reads, “I have read with dismay, comments attributed to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on the ongoing accusation and counter-accusation on Osun debt profile.
“This statement is thus necessary to clarify that the minister has not made or authorised any statement on the matter; however, comments made by me to a reporter were misreported and attributed to him by media houses who never had a conversation with me.
“Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is focused on his current assignment as the Minister of Interior and will not be distracted by the ongoing bickering. The actors involved in the current imbroglio are thus advised to keep his person out of their accusations and counter-accusations.”
Fasure insisted that Aregbesola will speak, if and when necessary, nad when the time for such comes, “all media houses will be contacted through the usual channels, as it has always been the case.”
