A rights activist and political observer, Comrade Razaq Olokoba, who also doubles as the National President, Campaign for Dignity in Governance, CDG, as well as the Convener, the Civil Society Organizations on Osun State Governorship Election, has predicted a landslide victory for Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State in the coming July 16, governorship election.

Olokoba, in a chat with our correspondent in Ikeja, Lagos State, at the weekend said his optimism that the sitting governor will retain his seat was borne out of his (Olokoba’s) experience when Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was appointed the Chairman of the campaign committee for the re-election of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The renowned pro-democracy activist stated that if the status and achievement of Sanwo-Olu then, when his performance had not been too much the talk of the town, could help in galvanising vote for Akeredolu, SAN, now that Sanwo-Olu has become a reference point in good governance, the Saturday, July 16 gubernatorial poll in Osun would be a walk-over for the incumbent, Oyetola.

Olokoba said that Sanwo-Olu and the calibre of other members of the 86-member campaign committee, which appears like an over-kill, is sufficient to encourage the good and highly enlightened people of the Living Spring State to direct their votes towards Oyetola overwhelmingly, adding that “Oyetola’s performance, which people have attested to would be an added advantage.”

The vocal analyst further said, “I was amazed when I learnt that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and former governor of Lagos State, now Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, is part of the campaign council, I started to wonder why the All Progressives Congress, APC, decided to kill an ordinary fly with a bazooka?!”

Speaking further, the Kwara State-born but globally respected right activist said that when he perused through the list of members of the Campaign Council, he was nearly pushed into telling the party to prune the list down, saying, “Those put together for just the governorship election are capable of winning a presidential poll for even a less popular candidate.”

Last Tuesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu alongsiide other high calibre political heavyweight across the country were appointed by the APC national leadership as chairman and members of the Campaign Council to oversee how the party would win the July 16 governorship election in Osun Sate. The Council has 86 members under the chairmanship of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The matching order given to the Sanwo-Olu-led APC National Campaign Council, according to a statement jointly signe by the APC National Chairman, Adamu Abdullahi, and National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, is to ensure victory for the APC and the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Oyetola, who is seeking re-election for a second term in office.
