Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, yesterday visited wards of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, OAUTH, Ile-Ife, where he paid the hospital bills of poor patients, totaling N2 million.

Speaking on the gesture, Senator Omisore said that nobody wished to be in the hospital bed on a glorious day like the beginning of the year, adding, “I’m doing this for those who are hospitalized and are certified fit to go home, but who cannot, because they have bills to settle.

“I believed that these people would have loved to be at home with their loved ones eating rice, pounded yam, meat, chicken, fish and gush it down with drinks, so doing this is to show love and affection and that we care about what they are passing through, by not been able to settle their bills.

“I want to appreciate the management of this world-class hospital for their service to humanity, as diverse people across the country are receiving healthcare from the facility. In all, 11patients were discharged, with about N2 million paid.”

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, of OAUTH, Prof. Victor Adetiloye, in his remarks, acknowledged the gesture of Omisore for coming to the aid of the patients on annual basis, stating that the entire hospital community is always happy with the philanthropy of the former Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation.

He said, “Omisore facilitated the construction of some of the modern buildings we have in this hospital. He is not doing this for ego boosting, as we have many other affluent persons in the community, who can do same. Rather, he is doing so for humanity and based on compassion.”
