•Appoints New Registrar

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has said that the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, is the best affiliated tertiary institution in Nigeria.
The Polytechnic was approved by the NUC to commrnce Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Food Science Technology, Electrical Electronics Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology, through its affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, in 2018.
A statement by the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Iroye, said that the NUC, at its interactive parley, organised in Abuja, did the ranking of affiliated tertiary institutions in Nigeria and came up rating the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, as the best, out of 104 institutions that were picked for assesment, having scored 99.3 per cent.
Iroye disclosed that the acting Director of Inspection and Monitoring of the NUC, Mrs Agnes Bamgbala, announced the result in her report read at the interactive meeting.
The polytechnic’s spokesman further disclosed that the school took off with 65 students, pointing out that the second set of such students are now ready for the matriculation.
Describing the achievement of the school as well deserved, Iroye said that the polytechnic would not relent in its efforts to put the institution at the forefront in academic excellence, stable academic calendar and staff welfare, as well as research and development.
Meanwhile, a new Registrar has been appointed for the polytechnic. He is Mr. Gabriel Soko, who is coming as the fifth substantive registrar of the institution.
Soko is succeeding late Mr. Adetunji Oni, the fourth registrar of the polytechnic, who died on August 22, this year.
Iroye, who made this known in a statement, said that until his appointment, Mr Soko was the Deputy Registrar in charge of Council Affairs.
He was said to have joined the services of the polytechnic in 1995 as an Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar on 1st July, 2010 and had worked in virtually every department of the institution.
The new Registrar who hails from Igosun in Oyun Local Government of Kwara State, attended Offa Grammar School, Offa, Kwara State, Kwara State College of Technology, now Kwara State Polytechnic, for his Cambridge A’level Certificate and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, where he bagged B.Sc. degree with honours in Sociology.
He was said to have also attended the University of Ilorin for his Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations, MILR, and as well obtained a Diploma in Information Technology, Desktop Publishing.
The statement added, “He is a member of many professional bodies, including: Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, CIPN, and Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, among others.”
