As part of his two-day humanitarian activities across Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday, shared N255 million, food items and textiles to about 70,000 heads of households, mostly Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, to improve on their means of livelihoods.
The distribution was conducted at three locations: Ngala town, Gamboru and Wulgo, all in council area, with male and female beneficiaries.
Zulum had arrived Gamboru on Friday and spent two nights, coordinating humanitarian and other developmental activities, before he re-opened the Gamboru International Cattle Market, which was closed down in the last seven years due to activities of Boko Haram in border communities with Cameroon Republic.
Speaking during the distribution, Governor Zulum said, “Most of the communities in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area experienced flooding, which has denied many of them access to their farmlands. Therefore, we made the intervention to mitigate impact and we will continue to support our people in need until they are able to stand on their feet.”
The governor also commended the Nigerian military and other security operatives for providing the enabling environment that led to the restoration of economic activities across liberated communities, hitherto occupied by the insurgents.
Zulum was accompanied during the visit by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial candidate for Borno Central senatorial district, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, the state chairman of the APC, Hon Ali Dalori, the APC candidate for the Marte/Monguno/Nganzai federal constituency, Hon Bukar Talba, some commissioners and top government functionaries.
