The Nasarawa State goverment yesterday threatened to sanction persons who are caught in the act of open defecation in the state.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in November, 2019, signed an Executive Order 009 to end open defecation by 2025 in the country.
However, the Nasarawa State goverment expressed worry over the attitude of some persons in the state, who are still defecating openly and threatened to sanction anyone caught in the act.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Musa Ibrahim, expressed goverment’s worry over the nonchalant attitudes of some persons towards the Executive Order of President Buhari, while briefing journalists after the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise for the month of June.
The commissioner said, “We are collaborating with traditional rulers and other stakeholders to intensify sensitisation against open defecation.
“The ministry has set up machinery to supervise existing households in the state and ensure that each of the households has toilet facilities.”
Ibrahim concluded by commending the people for clearing their drainages, a situation he attributed to the total absence of flooding in the state so far this year.
