The Nasarawa State Police Command has said that it has arrested 11 suspects in connection with the kidnap of the Nasarawa State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop Joseph Masin.

The state CAN chairman was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen at his residence in Lafia, the state capital on May 28, 2020, but was later released by his abductors three days later.

However, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bola Longe, disclosed the arrest of the 11 kidnap persons suspected to have a hand in the kidnap of the Nasarawa State CAN chairman.

He made the disclosure at the state police command headquarters in Lafia, while parading 46 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers arrested recently by the police in the state.

Longe said, “The 11 arrested kidnap suspects of the Bishop include the duo of Saminu M. Haruna and Godwin Ali Agbo, who are strongly suspected to be the masterminds of the crime.”

He also said that the police have arrested a 42-year old man, Aliyu Adamu, of Bukan Ari area of Lafia, who dragged an eighth years old girl on her way to Islamic School into his compound and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“The suspect was arrested during the act and claimed that he was motivated to act in that manner because of the dream he had, that if he had sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of five and ten, he will be rich,” the CP said.

Longe continued that six suspected rapists and cultists respectively were equally arrested in the course of the command’s recent operation.

“11 firearms, 63 live ammunition, one motorcycle and the sum of N1,486,040.00 were recovered from the suspected criminals by the police,” he added.
