The Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, NASEMA, on Tuesday commenced distribution of 45 trucks load of assorted relief materials it purchased to inhabitants of communities recently ravaged by flood.

Executive Secretary of NASEMA, Zakari Alu Maga, flagged off the distribution of the relief materials to the affected communities in Lafia.

Speaking to journalists shortly after flagging-off the distribution of the relief materials, Maga gave names of communities ravaged by flood in the state as Ara community with 250 households, Ribi with 57 households.

He also added that a whole community of Gidan Soja was swept by flood, while Gudi community has 11 households wiped out, even as a newly created settlement in Nasarawa community, called Oversea was equally wiped out by the flood recently.

He said, “With these, Governor Abdullahi Sule passionately released some money for us to purchase some food and non-food items for distribution to the affected communities in order to ameliorate sufferings of inhabitants of the areas.

“We also have building materials including cement and zinc to be distributed to the affected communities.

“What we have by way of non-food items is one truck load comprising blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, nylon mats, cooking utensils, among other materials.

He concluded that the agency has purchased 44 trucks load of food items, which includes bags of rice, garri, vegetable oil, among many others.
