…As Lagos PDP Welcomes Lagos4Lagos Convener, Jandor, To Its Fold
As reactions continued to trail the book ‘My Participation’, a book written by former governor of Osun State and former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Bisi Akande, a former Deputy National Chairman, South, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, yesterday described the book as not only shameful, but disappointing.
George who pleaded for caution among Yoruba elders in their reaction to the book, called in Chief Akande to withdraw the book, saying that it was disrespectful to Yoruba elders.
George said, “Akande must apologise openly to Yoruba elders. The attitude that he displayed is not acceptable in a civilised society. Is it his legacy to dishonour Yoruba elders?
“At his age, Akande should not set his house on fire because of Tinubu’s ambition. I felt very bad as a Yoruba man and as a Nigerian. He has maligned Yoruba elders and highly respectable people in the country. He was busy giving kudos to Bola Tinubu. Baba Akande is from Osun State and Tinubu is the only man that he could single out to praise.
“From the reaction to his book, you must have heard what Baba Adebanjo said. How are we going to be regarded by others? Is that the right thing to do? Baba Akande should withdraw the book that he has authored. It is very shameful. He is older than me and I don’t expect an elderly person to behave in that manner. He must apologise to those he has offended.”
Meanwhile, Chief George has appealed to members of the PDP family in Lagos State to welcome everyone desirous to join the party in the state, comparing a political party too a police station or hospital, where the doors are always open.
He said this at an event in his Ikoyi-Lagos office, where he welcomed the leader and Convener of the Lagos4Lagos group, Dr. Adbulazeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor to the Lagos PDP.
Insisting that “the more the merrier, George promised all aspirants on the platform of the party level playing ground when the time for contests come.
Describing this period in the history of Lagos PDP as a “new awakening,” George appealed to Lagos PDP members to work in harmony to ensure success come 2023.
He said, “The more the merrier. A good political party does not turn people away. It embraces everyone who can contribute to the progress of the party.
“The great founder of modern China Ma Zedong, put it appropriately when he observed in February 1957 in Peking, now called Beijing, during a fiery contention in the communist fold.
“Chairman Mao had said, ‘Let a thousand flowers bloom.’ This is logical, appropriate, valid and genuine wherever we seek progress and development.”
In his remarks, Dr Adediran said that he is already in the PDP has come to the party to win Lagos for the party come 2023, assuring that he is confident of success in the governorship election.
He said, “I’m not only coming to the PDP to aspire, but to win Lagos for PDP,” adding that he towed this path because where he was coming from, the APC, there was no freedom and there was leadership problem.
He disclosed that he has met other governorship aspirants of the party, pledging that if he did not get the party’s ticket, he will work with whoever emerges as candidate to win Lagos for the PDP in 2023.
In his address, the caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Lagos State, Engr Julius Akinsola, represented by the caretaker secretary, Hon Ade Adeniji, said that the future belongs to the youth and they should be prepared to take it over.
Akinsola added that the purpose of the gathering is to let all Lagos PDP members “know that Adeniran is a member of the PDP, whose formal defection will take place on January 11, 2022.”
The caretaker chairman disclosed that the gathering was not an endorsement of any candidate.
The event was attended by party leaders from across Lagos State, including: Chief George; Chief Taiwo Abayomi Kuye; South-West PDP Zonal Secretary, Hon Owokoniran; PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, member, Dr. Charles Akitoye; Hon. Adeniji; Baba Shitta; Dr. Amos Fawole; Dr. Niran Adeniji; Mr. Muyiwa Fafowora; Adediran, among others.
