Barely one week after the Police in Kwara State arrested a truck ferrying 50 people concealed in fruit cargo, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kwara State Command, has yet intercepted two commercial vehicles crossing the state with goods and passengers.
Recall that last week, the State Police Command had in a twit by its spokesman, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, announced the inception of a truck carrying the 50 people made up of men, children and women concealed in fruit cargo from Zamfara State.
Police had at the time said the truck was heading to Ogbomoso in Oyo State and had successfully maneuvered security checks in Niger State before luck ran out of it in Kwara State.
The human cargo had since been deported through Niger State back to Zamfara State.
However, the Kwara FRSC Sector Command also incepted the two commercial vehicles violating the order banning both inter and intra state journeys by commercial vehicles, which were said to be travelling from both Lagos and Osun State to Kwara State with the passengers.
FRSC Sector Commander, Jonathan Owoade, who made the disclosure in Ilorin, the state capital, said that the drivers were intercepted by the Corps’ Enforcement Patrol Teams stationed at various points across Kwara State.
He said, “The drivers have violated two of the lockdown regulations in the state, which are the ban on interstate travels and the social distancing regulation of carrying not more than two passengers at the back of their vehicles, and also overloaded their vehicles with goods.
“The Sector Command has since handed the offenders to the Department of State Security, DSS, for further actions.”
