The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB has trained it Budget, EMIS and Evaluation officers in advanced Microsoft Excel and Office 365 at its multi-purpose hall, for proficiency an enhanced service delivery.

The four-day training retreat, which commenced on Tuesday, 21st September 2021, is aimed at equipping the officers with introduction and application of UNESCO Institute of Statistics, UIS, software, introduction to Family Life HIV/AID indicator, FLH, with monitoring and evaluation reporting templates.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Hon Wahab Alawiye-King, stated that the retreat was organized to enhance effective and efficient education management information of the Board and to also tackle issues hampering budget, monitoring and evaluation service delivery in the basic education system.

Alawiye-King averred that data gathering will help the basic education sub-sector consolidate on the gains in the area of digitalization, adding that it is one of the key factors in achieving 3rd pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda – Education and Technology – of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

He stated that data capturing helps in unveiling intelligent and sharper decisions, adding that it is the process of building a model which will assist in outlining the future direction of the Board.

Alawiye-King further averred that data analysis is mathematical, practical and oral in contrast, noting that the integration of technology has strengthen learning and teaching activities in public primary schools.

He said, “With rapid changes and development in the Nigerian education system and indeed global ICT recently, it became more compelling for us to converge and assess our challenges and strategize for better planning, research and statistics activities.”

Charging the officers to take full advantage of the workshop, since it will address the shortcomings on data collection, analysis and aid the presentation of timely and reliable educational report for planning in making management decision, Hon Alawiye-King added, “As EMIS, Planning and Budget officers, you should be able to access data from our database, we should be able to state what is happening now in our schools and what will happen in the future.”

LASUBEB member in charge of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, said that the training is to keep the officers abreast of the necessary tools needed for data processing and analysis.

He charged participants to take full advantage of the training and acquire knowledge that will make them effective in their profession.

The facilitator at the training, the Managing Director, MD, of Dawid Consultancy, Mr. Nelson, informed that the workshop will equipped the participants with necessary skills in data processing and how to also achieve valuable report on data gathering and evaluation.
