The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King has urged Christian pupils and teachers to be thankful to God as they celebrate Christmas.

Speaking at the Board’s annual Christmas Carol for public primary school pupils, held at LASUBEB Hall, Maryland, Ikeja on Tuesday, 16th December, 2020, Alawiye-King noted that Christmas is used to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and the Christmas carol is one important activity that signals the yuletide.

He said that the theme of the year, ‘My Redeemer Liveth,’ hopes to remind every Christian to be thankful to God, who has kept them safe during the turbulent period of the COVID-19 pandemic and alive up till the twelfth month.

While also praying for the speedy recovery of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, one of the Nigerian leaders who have been foremost in the hard fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the LASUBEB boss told the children to keep to God’s words at all times.

He reminded them that Christmas is not just a period to merry with loved ones, but also a period to spend time with the less-privileged and reflect on life as the year flips.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary of the Board, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, encouraged the pupils to imbibe the teachings of Jesus Christ and strive to emulate his qualities of love, determination, selflessness and fairness.

The pupils, thereafter, took part in different activities, including choreography, Bible quiz, drama, and carol presentations, as they thrilled the audience.
