There are plans in the pipeline to reposition the five Job Registration Centres in Lagos State by the state government, to meet internationally acceptable standards.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Yetunde Arobieke, during a working visit to the centres.
Mrs Arobieke added that the essence was to capture all the unemployed people who desire to be gainfully employed or wish to become entrepreneurs.
Averring that the ministry must come up with a robust media campaign to create more awareness and sensitisation for the centres spread across the five divisions of Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe, the commissioner revealed that the job centres are designed to take care of the job needs of the people, while also filling the skill gaps between the employers of labour and the job seekers.
She said, “The job centres are for the citizens of Lagos to register their employment status and for entrepreneurs that desire top skills in their various trades.”
She, therefore, solicited for the cooperation of the local government and local council development areas, LCDAs’ chairmen, where the centres are situated towards achieving the wealth creation and employability goals of the present administration in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, gave assurance that the ministry will increase its efforts to sensitise the public on wealth creation and employability programmes that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has lined up to alleviate poverty in the state.
