…As GAC Orders Direct Primary For All Aspirants
Ahead of the July 24 local council election in Lagos State, the highest decision making body in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, has ordered all aspirants for all elective positions at the council level to go for direct primary.
With the exception of the chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Kolade Alabi, who has been granted automatic ticket for a second term, all other council chairmen, who may wish to return are to subject themselves to the party’s direct primary.
CompassNG learnt that the GAC took the decision on the prompting of its chairman, former governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during its meeting on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
The meeting decided that all other aspirants for chairmanship and councillorship positions, including the incumbent occupiers of the offices, seeking reelection would go through a direct primary involving all members of the party.
The decision to return Alabi, according to sources, was because of his exalted position as the National President of the All Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON.
CompassNG also scooped that the GAC decided on direct primary following several complaints of dismal performance of most of the current council chairmen in the state.
One of the source volunteered, “Only few of them performed well, hence the decision to allow those seeking reelection to face the party members in the primary. The case of Kolade Alabi was an exception, because of his position as the National President of ALGON.”
