The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has announced that a Kano State-bound train from Lagos has derailed within Jebba area in Niger state, North-Central Nigeria last Saturday, but with no record of casualty.

Managing Director of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria confirmed the incident in a phone conversation, following the emergence of a video showing the fallen coaches and damaged rail tracks.

He, however, said only the luggage vans at the rear were involved in the mishap.

Okhiria added that other parts of the train conveying passengers continued the journey after the mishap.

The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, but the corporation says it is hoping to fix the damaged portions of the rail tracks in a few days.

The Lagos-Kano railway is a monorail line, renovated for conveyance of passengers and goods by the current administration.
