A pan-Lagos socio-political outfit, Epe Youth Forum, EYF, has commended the exhibition of maturity by the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, towards the resolution of the near crisis occasioned by the seeming misunderstanding between the executive arm of government under him and legislative arm under the Speaker, House of Assembly, Hon Mudashiru Obasa.
Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu recently forwarded 39 cabinet nominees’ names to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as dictated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2009, as a.mended, but the governor was jolted when 17 out of the 39 nominees were dropped by the legislative House. Temper rose and polity was under pressure, ready to heat up, but before well-wishers and relevant stakeholders waded in to urge for consultation and dialogue to address the issue.
A statement from the Leader of the Forum, Ogbeni Wale Oladipupo, made available to the media in Lagos on Monday said, “The way and manner Governor Sanwo-Olu bend backward to accommodate some untowards nuances from some quarters led to the amicable resolution of the seemingly knotty issue.”
Oladipupo stated that “the statesmanship disposition of the governor averted what could have caused unnecessary friction that could have drawn back the hands of clock in the state.”
The statement averred that Sanwo-Olu, who had hit the ground running in a view to achieving his assurance of his promised better second term in office, play a fatherly role in the matter in the interest of the good people of Lagos, whose aspirations and yearnings he has vowed to doggedly safeguard come rain come shine.
The statement added, “In an instance like this, what Sanwo-Olu deserves is doubling of support and cooperation of the generality of the people and residents of the state.”
Praising party elders across the state, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, leaders of the ruling party in all the three senatorial districts in the state for their positive reconciliatory efforts that prevented the crisis from snowballing to the level that could have jeopardise the good intention of Sanwo-Olu for his people, the statement added, “Your efforts at resolving the impasse are appreciated.”
The Forum therefore urged the governor to continue putting his eyes fixedly on the ball in the onerous task of state building with a view to disallowing any form of distraction that can derail his mission and vision of achieving a mega city of world standard, assuring him that “our teeming members that run into several thousands across the country and beyond are solidly behind you and are prepared to support you in whatever way constitutionally allowed to be of assistance.”
